“HAPPY NEW YEAR!!”
I hope 2017 as started with for you the way you want to continue it. With fun, love, happiness, laughter, surrounded by loved ones!
As the new year arrives, we all start setting our goals and intentions for the year. If we didn’t have a great year the prior year, we write our goals from a place of how we are going to make the new year better than the one passed.
If you are like me and are working on your own goals and intentions today, there is so much value in reflecting fully on the year that has passed. Most of us only focus on what didn’t work in the prior year when we reflect, and just state “2016 was a horrible year, I can’t wait for it to be over”.
But if you reflect on the year from a negative place only, you miss out appreciating how much growth you experienced within the year.
Personally when I look at the year that has gone, I had been looking through with a negative mindset because of the health challenges I experienced. But in reality, a lot of amazing things also happened.
I launched my signature program within my business, The Body Love Experience and I learned a lot of new things in the process, I launched The Self Love Collective, I completed my life coaching certification, I was blessed enough to work with some truly amazing personal and business coaches to support me through multiple transitions, and supported in making my dreams come true, I met some beautiful new friends who have been my cheerleaders throughout the year, and I have also managed to set some boundaries about how I will be treated in my life, and what I will and won’t accept from those in my life, and therefore removed people that are not healthy for me to have in my life.
Whilst it is easy to focus on the dark times that 2016 bought, when you are reflecting today, reflect fully and don’t leave out the good things that also happened. Whilst easy to curse the dark times, you became more resilient, you experienced growth and they made you stronger. But don’t let them be the focal point of the year that’s gone.
When you are reflecting, and setting your goals and intentions, ask yourself the following questions;
- What are the top three amazing things that happened for me in 2017?
- What are the top three lessons I learned in 2016?
- What am I most proud of in 2016?
- What do I want to achieve in 2017? And why??
Reflecting on only the negative is detrimental to our self-care as we are telling ourselves that only negative things ever happen to us and we bring about more of them, and therefore can easily repeat the year just gone, aka, not what we are wanting!
I hope your 2017 is filled with love, happiness, peace, freedom, laughter and new adventures!
